Religious & Secular Humanist

Dear Farzana

It was a wonderful dialogue. I feel like ending it so that we could go to another subject in the future.
From our dialogue I have an impression that we have more things common in our philosophy than differences.

I feel you are a Religious Humanist while I am a Secular Humanist. We both believe in humanistic values and want people to lead responsible lives individually and collectively. I want them to strive to be the best as human beings as I try to be the best I can. I do not feel the need of a religious doctrine while you feel the need to follow a religious tradition. You feel scriptures are words of God while I believe they are part of folklore and world mythology full of wisdom but I am not in favor of making laws based on scriptures as I am in favor of keeping state and church (or mosque or temple or synagogue separate).

As a secular humanist I respect your wish and need to follow your religious tradition. Being a non-believer I do not get the same respect from other believers but since you a liberal Muslim I can have a dialogue with you.

So we agree on most points and agree to disagree on some.

If you wish to continue please feel free and I will pursue. You wanted to end it early and move on to the topic of WAHY but I pursued and you were gracious enough to continue.
Do you mind if Pervaiz can post it on my website under the title RELIGION, ETHICS AND HUMAN SEXUALITY

If you have any other title in mind feels free to suggest. I am always open to suggestions and a healthy dialogue. I had heard that in one word we can define DEMOCRACY IS DIALOGUE. In a democratic society there is a dialogue at home, in the schools and in the community while in a autocratic society there are monologues and lectures and sermons. I am glad we have a democratic relationship as we can have a dialogue. Now I think we can be friends. What do you think?
Sincerely sohail
